Purpose of this Position
Operates stationary overhead crane to lift or lower containers to and from vessels alongside SGP berth.
Key Responsibilities
-Operates the quay cranes safely and efficiently by following safety guidelines while operating crane to load, and unload containers to or from the vessel.
-Coordinates with the wharf operations supervisor regarding the correct stowage instructions and positions of containers.
-Positions the crane safely alongside the vessel at the required hatch/bay as per the wharf operations supervisor’s instructions and in accordance with the crane program.
-Operates quay crane to lift and move materials and objects as identified and instructed by the immediate superior.
-Manipulates or depresses crane controls, such as pedals, levers, and buttons to regulate speed and direction of crane and hoisting mechanism.
-Steers the vehicle by moving levers and pressing pedals that control motion.
-Releases brake, shift gears, and depresses accelerator or moves throttle to control forward and backward movement.
-Observes load hookup and determines safety of load.
-Ensures safe maneuvering of quay crane during operations.
-Inspects quay crane for defective parts to ensure safety of operations and reports to immediate superior its defects or malfunction and overall condition.
-Attaches load to hook or other crane accessory prior to operating the crane.
-Undertakes routine cleaning of QC cabin and windows. Maintains cleanliness of equipment at all times.
-Ensures strict implementation of the Occupational Safety, Health and Environment Policy.
-Performs other related functions as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Experience:
-Minimum of 2 years experience as qualified QC operator in a container terminal.
-Three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
