Purpose of the Job
Expertise in steel handling and reinforcement installation and knowledge of trackwork will be instrumental in delivering on time.
Responsibilities
-Interpret blueprints and trackwork specifications for steel components (reinforcement, rails, ties, fasteners).
-Unload, transport, and position steel reinforcement accurately.
-Securely hold and align steel reinforcement components according to precise specifications.
-Operate welding equipment (if qualified) to join steel components permanently, ensuring quality welds that meet industry standards.
-Assist with the installation of prefabricated steel track sections.
-Maintain a clean and organized work area, keeping steel components and tools readily available.
-Collaborate effectively with masons, trackworkers, and other crew members to ensure smooth project flow.
-Adhere to all safety protocols and wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
Educational Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent and completion of a carpentry apprenticeship program (or minimum 3 to 5 years of relevant experience)
Desired Knowledge / Experience
-Minimum 2 to 3 years of experience as a Steel Fixer or in a related metalworking field.
-Strong understanding of safe steel handling techniques.
-Familiarity with various steel fabrication methods (e.g., welding, cutting, drilling) is a plus.
-Ability to read and interpret blueprints and trackwork specifications.
-Ability to lift and carry moderate weight (up to 50 lbs).
-Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
-Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality work.
-Experience working on track installation projects, particularly with steel components, is a plus.
