Purpose of this Position
Operates rubber-tired gantry (RTG) to lift or move containerized loads within SGPC’s Yard
Key Responsibilities
-Operates the rubber tired gantry (RTG) cranes safely and efficiently in the container yard by adhering to safety guidelines in loading and unloading containers in the yard, rail wagons, or prime movers/trucks.
-Coordinates with the planning and control center regarding work instruction on positions or areas to stack containers through designated terminal devices.
-Performs shifting of containers as per assigned in the work instruction.
-Manipulates or depresses RTG controls, such as pedals, levers, and buttons to regulate speed and direction of crane and hoisting mechanism.
-Steers the vehicle by moving levers and pressing pedals that control motion.
-Releases brake, shift gears, and depresses accelerator or moves throttle to control forward and backward movement.
-Observes load hookup and determines safety of load.
-Ensures safe maneuvering of rubber-tired gantry during operations.
-Inspects rubber-tired gantry for defective parts to ensure safety of operations and reports to -immediate superior any defects or malfunction and overall condition.
-Ensure the fastest turnaround for yard operations and minimize unnecessary breaks.
-Unloads and stacks material by raising and lowering lifting device.
-Undertakes routine cleaning of cabins and windows. Maintains cleanliness of equipment at all times.
-Ensures strict implementation of the Occupational Safety, Health and Environment Policy.
-Performs other related functions as assigned by the immediate supervisor
Experience
-Minimum of 2 years experience as qualified RTG operator in a container terminal.
-Three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
