Primary Purpose of the Job
Carries out troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, overhaul and calibration of different types of field instruments installed in any plant/unit of QP Refinery as assigned by Lead Instrument Engineer.
Principal Accountabilities
-Responsible and accountable to execute preventive and corrective maintenance jobs including troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, overhaul and calibration of different kinds of field instruments in assigned plant/units.
-Receives peg board with planned preventive/corrective maintenance orders from respective senior instrument engineer or senior technician and obtain permits, ESD bypass, tools, test equipment, spare parts and executes maintenance jobs as per job priority in line with Refinery maintenance practices, HSE rules and regulations.
-Reports any requirement of additional support from civil, mechanical, electrical, workshop or any other sections in order to create sub-order in SAP and follow up with concerned section to complete assigned job effectively.
-Provides status of jobs, maintenance history, spare parts used and any problems noticed during execution to respective senior instrument engineer. Also, attends important corrective order jobs as per assigned priority in SAP.
-Reports non-availability of spare parts to respective senior engineer and creates reservation for stock items. Provides instrument data sheet, name plate details to order new spare part for non-stock items to create PR or E-SPF. Inspects material at ware house and provide feedback to respective senior engineer on its acceptance.
-Coordinates and supervises installation of new instruments by contractors through modification/projects and hand over discrepancies to respective senior instrument engineer to issue punch list. Supports commissioning of new instruments and assists in the preparation of spare parts for new instruments. Carries out minor modifications.
-Supports and provides technical assistance to other General Technician, Instrument Technician to troubleshoot technical problems. Attends urgent on-call jobs during non-working hours as per duty roster and provides feedback to respective on-call duty engineer.
-Reviews shutdown jobs and provide list of spare parts required to carry out shutdown maintenance. Supervises shutdown contractors to execute control valves and other critical maintenance activities during shutdown. Attends any instrument problem during plant start-up after shutdown.
-Executes all maintenance activities in a safe manner in line with relevant International/Corporate Standards, Engineering/Maintenance practices, Health & Safety regulations including Management of Change and maintains good housekeeping practice at workshop & plant.
-Follows procedures/work instructions and completes applicable forms to maintain records for any audit. Attend HSE courses and follows HSE rules and regulations strictly. Fully complies with instructions given in permits and uses suitable test equipment in hazardous area.
Qualifications / Knowledge / Skills / Experience
-Diploma in Instrumentation/Control Systems Engineering from a well recognized College/University. At least 6 to 8 years of experience as Instrument technician in Refinery, Oil & Gas or petrochemical industry with sound knowledge in measurement principles, installation, commissioning, maintenance and overhauling of various field instruments. Knowledge on hazardous area classification, smart field instruments interface with DCS and PLC is desirable.
-Knowledge about International Standards and Best practices of Instrumentation in Refining, Oil& Gas and Petrochemical Industries is an added advantage.
-Should be highly proficient and have excellent command in spoken/written English. Work experience in the Arabian Gulf Countries is desirable.
