Basic Function:
Supervises mill operations including crushing, milling, flotation, re-agent mixing, filtering of slurries, leaching, carbon in pulp, stripping of gold from carbon, re-activation of carbon, electro-winning of gold from solution, smelting of gold slime/sludge, dispatching of gold bullion, dispatching of copper and zinc concentrates, disposal of tailings and heap leaching activities.
Work Performed:
-Supervises the activities of assigned Mill operations personnel. Performs supervisory duties at the level established by management for the position.
-Supervises and ensures the efficient and effective operation of the total mill process. Includes running the process according to laid down plans and procedures to achieve targeted daily tonnage throughput and ensure targeted recoveries of gold, copper, zinc and silver.
-Supervises and ensures the correct dosage rates for various chemicals in order to obtain maximum metal recovery.
-Ensures the maintenance of the optimum grind in the milling circuit for effective metal recovery.
-Ensures that all subordinates conform to safety rules and regulations. Conducts regular safety meetings for furtherance of such objectives.
-Ensures that all required chemicals are readily available. Includes monitoring stock levels and liaising with Purchasing on a continuing basis for replenishment.
-Conducts daily meetings with senior subordinates for reviewing the past 24 hours process performance. Includes listing problems and equipment breakdowns, determining corrective action required, assigning responsibilities and following up on execution.
-Conducts daily meetings with Maintenance staff regarding actual or potential breakdowns, setting priorities for corrective action to be taken on breakdowns, and discussing in detail mechanical process changes required to improve the efficiency of the operation.
-Ensures the timely completion of the smelting of gold bullion in order to achieve monthly targeted production figures.
-Develops and implements more effective process routes to optimize metal recovery and minimize costs.
-Carries out other similar or related duties such as participating in the preparation of the overtime schedule and annual leave roster, planning and organizing labor with the assistance of his immediate subordinates for effective processing, preparing information and input for the monthly mill report, assisting in the preparation of annual budgets and exercising cost control on an ongoing basis.
Minimum Requirements:
-Completion of Secondary (Sciences) education (12 years) followed by 2 years’ full time formal training leading to a Diploma in Extractive Metallurgy.
-10 years’ experience of mill operations in the mining industry including supervisory experience.
-Good knowledge of English.
