DESIGN DRAINAGE DEPARTMENT
Job Description
The Senior Sewerage Engineer (Design) will be required to:-
-To be a member of the DD management team
-liaise with other government department and utility providers with regard to Sewerage requirements
-Liaise and technical support with the Infrastructure/ Design Dept. of the PWA
-Responsible for the preparation of strategic plans for the general development in terms of sewage requirements
-Liaison with the various section heads within DD to ensure conformity to the overall plan and to highlights conflicts
-To initiate new work and prepare design briefs for GEC Consultants
-To constantly review current design practice and where necessary modify to suit prepared by PMC/GEC
-To constantly review current specifications and apply new technologies to suit specifications with continuous update of codes and standards prepared by PMC/GEC.
-Assess and evaluate developments/catchments and potential sewage generation
-To be familiar with Ashghal contract procurement procedures with PWA Model Forms of Contract (eg: D&B, DBO&M, etc.) and other types of international Conditions of Contract (eg: FIDIC, ICE, BOOT, etc.)
-To be acquainted with the administration procedures of the DD
-To review design submissions by GEC Consultants
-Audit PMC/GEC Consultant submissions in terms of quality and compliance to the requirements of the design briefs & standards
-Offer technical advice to the Design Dept. of the PWA
-Liaison with Drainage Project Department and advise on design issues
-Liaise with Urban Planning Development Authority (UPDA) to secure land for drainage use (Pumping Stations) and to advice on sewerage requirements to cater for proposed developments
-Preparation of project progress reports
-Assist in the preparation of the design budget
-Assist in the development and implementation of a quality Assurance System.
-Liaise with the Asset Affairs with respect to all matters involving operation, maintenance and performances of existing or proposed sewage works
-Contribution towards updating the PWA Drainage Design Manuals
Qualifications
-B.Sc. Civil or Environmental engineering degree from an accredited University in the United Kingdom, United States of America or other approved country
-Must have Professional Registration (Chartered Engineer) from a recognised Professional Institution in UK, USA or other approved country and must have been registered as such for at least ten years
-Post Graduate Qualifications and/or Professional Memberships of the ICE, CIWEM, ASCE, etc. will be advantageous
-Competent in design & analysis software, Microsoft Word; Excel and Microsoft Project, etc
-Proficiency in English language for both written and verbal communication is essential
Experience
-Up to 5-7 years experience in Civil engineering in the disciplines
-To have an appreciation on international water and effluent quality standards pertaining to Sewage works.
-Experiences in major sewage projects involving government and regulatory departments, public and private sector organizations
-Experiences in managing large multidisciplinary design projects including Civil Works, Sewage Collection and Conveyance Networks and Forwarding Pumping Stations
-Experiences in Design and Build type contracts associated with Sewage works
-Experience in the Gulf Region projects of similar nature is preferred
