HEAVY EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE PROJECTS
BASIC FUNCTION
Carries out the preventive and corrective maintenance on heavy-duty vehicles/equipment including cranes, STS/RTG cranes, flat beds and forklift trucks, and various mechanical devices such as air compressors, vacuum pumps and crane apparatus on the crane truck. Includes preventive and routine maintenance tasks such as checking and changing oil, hydraulic fluids, filters and water, as well as major dismantling, repair and reassembly of engines, gear assemblies and other associated equipment.
WORK PERFORMED
-Carries out corrective maintenance and repair in the workshop or on site, and the workshop overhaul of heavy duty lifting equipment and ancillaries, such as vacuum pumps, portable air compressors, cranes, forklifts, diesel generators and fire pumps. Includes stripping, cleaning, replacing defective parts, adjusting, refitting and reassembling as required.
-Carries out repair and service work on the engines and drive mechanisms of heavy duty vehicles, including overhaul, repair and replacement of clutches, gear boxes, propeller shafts, front and rear axles, braking system and steering assemblies.
-Performs preventive maintenance duties on heavy equipment according to regular schedules and check lists. Includes changing engine oil, replacing filters, cleaning filter elements, checking fan belts and water hoses, filling radiators and cleaning engines with appropriate chemicals. Greases and lubricates moving parts as required.
-Inspects repaired engines and starts them. Includes checking for leaks, proper installation and operation of safety devices, such as oil and water temperature gauges and over speed trip switches. Test-checks all engine and mechanical parts, including load testing of cranes and forklifts, to ensure that proper procedures have been followed.
-Works from equipment drawings and manuals, using spare part lists and vocabulary system information, to ensure that correct parts or adequate substitutes are installed.
-Determines with Supervisor the extent of work and appropriate action to be taken such as, replacing parts, reconditioning components or performing complete overhauls.
-Services and maintains the internal combustion engines of plant stationary diesel driven or petrol driven equipment such as emergency generators, diesel driven compressor, diesel driven pipe pumps, wheel balancing etc.
-Complies with all Environmental, safety and fire rules and regulations, including the use of protective clothing and equipment, and maintains work location in a clean and tidy
-Carries out other similar or related duties as assigned, such as fabricating small parts, attending to breakdown, and diagnosing faults based on Driver’s descriptions.
-To check and repair or replace of tyres of heavy equipments
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
-Completion of Preparatory education
-Minimum 6 to 8 years experience in heavy-duty vehicle maintenance and repair work experience on marine equipment will be preferred.
-Working knowledge of English.
