Basic Function:
Superintends the entire Mill process with the aim of optimizing metal recovery, ensuring constant equipment availability and process and labor efficiency. Ensures that all operations are carried out in accordance with approved safety and environmental standards and regulations. Responsibilities include operations, mechanical and electrical maintenance, assay laboratory, metallurgical laboratory, heap leaching and water treatment plant.
Work Performed:
-Supervises the activities of assigned personnel in the Mill Department. Performs supervisory duties at the department head level as established by management for the position.
-Exercises general supervision over mill operations to ensure optimum recovery of gold, silver, zinc and copper from the ore. Includes reviewing collated daily production figures and results, identifying deviations from predetermined standards and targets, taking action on such deviations in liaison with supervisory staff and following up to ensure effective achievement of results.
-Exercises general supervision of preventive and breakdown mechanical and electrical maintenance. Includes holding daily meetings with his supervisory staff to review preceding 24 hours results, determining action to be taken and priorities for emergency and day to day breakdowns, discussing ideas and suggestions for modifications to equipment for performance improvement and discussing ideas for resolution of on-going maintenance problems. Takes necessary action to resolve difficulties related to the supply or availability of critical spare parts.
-Exercises general supervision of heap leach operations. Includes liaising regularly with heap leach supervisory staff to ensure the achievement of planned targets, planning and scheduling for short and longer term production requirements, liaising with contractor for the preparation of pad and hauling and placing of ore on pad, and monitoring results on a daily basis.
-Exercises general supervision of total assay activities. Includes monitoring analytical and test results, liaising with Chief Assayer regarding improved methods and equipment, and compiling and submitting reports to higher management.
-Exercises general supervision of metallurgical laboratory activities. Includes identifying less efficient areas in the processing plant, discussing with Chief Metallurgist possible remedies and suitable test work to be conducted, setting the necessary methods and procedures to be followed for the specific bench test, analyzing the validity of the results obtained, discussing with supervisory staff the possibility of applying it plant-wide, determining its cost effectiveness in practice, and drawing up a report with recommendations for management approval.
-Ensures general supervision of water treatment and the operation of swimming pools and sewage plant. Includes liaising daily with supervisory staff regarding the level of water stocks, and discussing performance of water treatment plant for preceding 24 hours for identifying problems which have arisen and the remedial action required.
-Exercises general supervision of the shipment of zinc and copper concentrates and gold bullion. Includes arranging for the preparation of all required documents, including certificates of origin, bills of lading, contracts etc and personally supervising the loading of zinc concentrates as required.
-Supervises the department’s implementation of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) programs. Attends and provides input to strategy and policy development and review meetings; ensures that the promotion of the company’s policies and procedures in the Maintenance Department is effective and monitors activities to ensure compliance. Participates in Incident Response and Command activities, reviews and comments on incident reports and carries out independent investigations of all accidents and near misses involving own staff or facilities. Ensures that all contractors/consultants are fully briefed on the Company’s HSE regulations and signs accordingly during contract signing. Provides independent advice and comments on HSE issues to improve company programs.
-Supervises and participates in the training of Saudi nationals assigned to his department.
-Carries out other similar or related duties such as assisting with and submitting for approval the section budgets, preparing information for monthly mill report of gold production, attending daily meetings with his Manager and weekly management and safety meetings, liaising with Training department for assessing training needs and preparing training schedules, ensuring sufficient operations personnel, ensuring the safe operation of the tailings dam, and keeping up to date with the latest technological changes in the industry.
Minimum Requirements:
-Bachelor’s degree in Extractive Metallurgy or equivalent.
-Minimum 10 years mining experience relevant to gold, silver, copper, zinc etc., including supervisory experience.
-Very good knowledge of English.
