Educational and Technical Qualifications/ Certifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering
Years and Nature of Experience:
More than 7 years of relevant experience in a similar industry or in a similar role of which minimum 3 years of supervisory experience preferably in the area of overhead line design
JOB PURPOSE
The role holder is responsible for ensuring effective cable design services are provided for all Kahramaa’s electricity projects, by performing activities related to developing robust and optimized cable designs, in compliance with established guidelines and relevant standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Core Responsibilities:
-Participates in the implementation of strategies and plans for the design of cables for Kahramaa’s electricity projects, in line with approved parameters like cost, timelines, functionality and quality
-Participates in reviewing current standard specifications and methodologies related to cable system design and assists in updating them, as and when necessary
-Performs cable design works for new electricity facilities that are assigned to the Electricity Projects Department and analyses existing cable designs, in order to optimize the designs, by judicious combination of office and site visits to ensure design compliance
-Assists in the development of an optimized cable design for all electricity projects, compliant with safety codes through comprehensive development and reviews of project documents such as Terms of Reference (TOR), bill of quantities, commercial and contractual terms, budgeting, costing and basic project design
-Prepares basic cable project designs, plans and drawings, prior to handover to respective departments and highlights any discrepancies, in order to ensure an optimal and error-free project design
-Assists Senior Design Engineer Cable in identifying areas of improvement in the project design, incorporates these in the proposed scope of work and makes all enhancements, in order to build a robust cable design
-Assists in the review of actual cable designs, plans and drawings
-Assists in the development of bidding and contract documents, for all Kahramaa’s major Capital Electricity Projects
-Attends and witnesses type test and fault investigations at factory and/ or independent labs from a quality assurance and quality control point of view, prior to material approvals for project implementation
-Prepares all relevant basic and design concept reports, pertaining to cable design engineering, in a timely manner, as applicable to the role
-Reviews and raises requisitions for technical journals and ensures a robust operating procedure is in place for matters related to publishing of technical documentation
-Works in cooperation with Quality Assurance and Continual Improvement department on securing and maintaining the ISO 9001-2008 certification
-Carries out and ensures the compliance of all activities within the Design Engineering Section are in-line with Kahramaa health and safety regulations
-Carries out design review, project coordination till commissioning and handover of the bulk- customer project based on agreement with BC
-Carries out supervision of the project implementation of minor, medium and major size main electricity projects of substations and ensures the implementation is in line with project execution plans
-Carries out supervision in troubleshooting technical problems in electrical engineering discipline and ensures effective formulation and implementation of appropriate corrective actions
-Participates in inspecting contractor’s materials during factory visits, from a quality assurance and quality control point of view, prior to material approvals for project implementation
-Attends site testing including EHV/HV testing in full compliance with approved procedures and KM Safety Regulations
-Monitors site installation activities, to ensure objectives are accomplished within the prescribed time frame and budget parameters
-Carries out necessary pre-qualification of local and international manufacturers, equipment and systems including factory appraisals, as well as assessment/approval of subcontractors
-Carries out all tendering activities from design concept, site verifications, preparation of scope & specifications and tender documents, interact with relevant Govt authorities for approvals, tender clarifications, tender evaluation till tender award & contract documentation approvals
Self-Management Responsibilities:
-Defines performance goals at the start of the year in discussion with the reporting manager and ensures that the goals are achieved during the course of the year
-Identifies the training and development requirements for self and agrees on them with the reporting manager to ensure that the required trainings are arranged and attended
-Keeps abreast of professional developments, new techniques and current issues through continued education and professional growth
