MINIMUM REQUIREMENT.
-Diploma in Analytical Chemistry or equivalent qualification.
-4 years experience in Petroleum Refinery Laboratory and familiarity with advanced computerized Laboratory equipment.
OR
-Higher Secondary School Certificate offering Science subjects.
-6 years Petroleum Refinery Laboratory experience and familiarity with advanced Computerized Laboratory equipment.
-Good knowledge of written and spoken English.
-Computer literate.
-Should have working experience in REFINERY.
BASIC FUNCTIONS
-Carries out physical and chemical analyses on all Refinery samples such as crude oils, intermediate and finished petroleum products, utility and process water samples, lube oil samples, scales and sludge from different units, corrosion products, catalysts, process chemicals, industrial wastes, effluent water, samples related with environmental pollution control, gases, granulated sulphur, GUP (Area IV) water samples and other related substances.
-Follows standard test methods adopting wet chemistry techniques and state-of-the-art technology, in conjunction with sophisticated, computerized Laboratory equipment requiring computer literacy, special skills, care and experience, for plant control, quality control, product certification, corrosion control etc.
WORK PERFORMED
-Carries out a wide range of physical and chemical analyses on Refinery samples such as Crude oil, intermediate and finished petroleum products, utility water samples, Lube oil samples, scales and sludge from different units, corrosion products, gases and catalysts in accordance to established international standard methods using state of the art technology, sophisticated, computerized Laboratory analyzers and wet Chemistry
Techniques.
-Follows up all instructions given by Senior Lab. Technician and assists in the day-to-day activities of the Laboratory. Includes preparing and standardising chemical reagents and solutions necessary for analyses, moving and fixing gas cylinders for instrumental analysis and reporting abnormal conditions during shift to Senior Lab. Technician.
-Monitors the addition of chemical additives to vessels’ tanks by the Sample Collectors and carries out conductivity tests on board the vessel on Jet Fuel samples in ships’ tanks after addition of chemical additives.
-Carries out physical and chemical analyses on Granulated Sulphur samples for plant control and quality certification. Performs special analyses on industrial wastes, effluent water samples related with environmental pollution control; and conducts chemical analyses on process chemicals to evaluate their purity.
-Uses, maintains and calibrates sophisticated computerized analyzers such as Gas chromatographs, atomic absorption spectrophotometer, IR spectrophotometer, ICP Analyzer, UV/Visible spectrophotometer, X-Ray spectrophotometer, memotitrators, nitrogen analyzer, Alcor-JFTOT, Vacuum distillation, atmospheric distillation, freezing point, pour point, cloud point, CFPP analyzers, CFR Octane engines. FTIR spectrometer, Wickbold Sulphur and Chlorine Analyser. etc. to determine chemical composition and physical properties.
-Carries out all required physical and chemical analyses in the GUP, and monitors and advises operations of chemical dosing rates. Where applicable, performs sampling in the units and carries out standard and/or special analyses in the units during shutdown and start-up.
-Carries out chemical and physical analyses on BP/ASTM/AGCC Laboratory correlation samples and on other samples received from other operating centres, sister companies, and third parties. Logs Lab. test results in LIMS. Compares test results with respective standard specifications and reports to Senior Lab. Technician if there is any deviation.
-Performs experimental studies for product quality improvement, better yields and to determine the cause of any problems affecting product quality.
-Assists in the installation, commissioning and calibration of newly acquired Lab. equipment. Prepares calibration blends to check performance of analyzers and reports damage and malfunctioning of Lab. equipment to Senior Lab. Technician for remedial action.
-Coordinates with Marine Section personnel and Third Party Inspectors before commencement of product loading to vessels, during loading and after completion of loading.
-Complies with all HSE rules and regulations, including the use of protective clothing and equipment and participates in Fire fighting, first aid and Safety drills.
-Carries out similar or related duties as assigned. Includes maintaining all relevant files and records, maintaining good housekeeping of Lab. equipment & premises and complying with ISO 9000:2000 procedures, etc
